WAOK’s own Derrick Boazman, host of Too Much Truth, has just returned from his second trip to Africa this year—an unforgettable and emotional journey to Ghana, West Africa, accompanied by dedicated WAOK listeners and coordinated by Personal Touch Tours.
This trip marked another powerful chapter in Boazman’s commitment to reconnecting with African heritage and educating the community on the deep roots of the African diaspora. One of the most profound moments of the journey was visiting the historic Cape Coast and Elmina Castles—once used as holding posts for enslaved Africans before they were forced onto ships during the transatlantic slave trade. Boazman and the group were able to walk through the same dungeons and corridors where countless Africans were imprisoned, offering a visceral and sobering experience.
Another emotional highlight of the trip was visiting the village of Assin Manso, the site where enslaved Africans were taken for their "last bath" before being sold and shipped overseas. The group took time to reflect, honor the ancestors, and connect spiritually with the significance of the place.
Boazman called the trip “transformational” and emphasized how important it is for African Americans to make these pilgrimages to understand history beyond the textbook—to feel it, to see it, and to bring those lessons home.
Thanks to the seamless organization by Personal Touch Tours, the journey was not only educational but also filled with meaningful cultural experiences and fellowship among travelers.
With two Africa trips completed in one year, Boazman’s mission continues—to uncover truth, reclaim history, and strengthen the ties between the African continent and its descendants.
