Recently on "Wake Up With Dee" Host Dr. Dee Dawkins-Haigler spoke with president of the New Rock Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction (TLOD) Dr. Charnita West Jenkins about the chapter's ongoing efforts to support local youth, seniors, and communities in need.

TLOD, founded in 1964, is a national civic organization focused on addressing social issues, with an emphasis on youth development, education, and community service. The New Rock Chapter, which serves DeKalb, Henry, Newton, and Rockdale counties, has earned a reputation for its impactful programs and deep community involvement.
Dr. West Jenkins provided insight into some of the chapter's key initiatives. One of the standout programs is Top Teens of America, which offers local teenagers a platform to grow as leaders, engage in community service, and excel academically. The chapter also recently participated in an intergenerational event at a senior living facility, where they spent time playing bingo, singing holiday carols, and sharing holiday cheer with elderly residents. The event not only fostered joy among the seniors but also allowed the youth to develop a greater sense of community connection.
In addition to its focus on youth and seniors, the New Rock Chapter is involved in numerous charitable efforts, including a recent initiative with the Newton County Sheriff's Office. The chapter helped distribute toys to children of incarcerated parents, ensuring that those children could experience the joy of receiving gifts during the holidays. Dr. West Jenkins also highlighted the chapter's commitment to community beautification and its ongoing partnerships with local organizations to address social justice, public health, and environmental issues.
As the holiday season approaches, Dr. West Jenkins shared personal reflections on celebrating Christmas for the first time with her husband. She expressed gratitude for family and emphasized the importance of cherishing loved ones, especially in light of the challenges many have faced over the past few years.
