This week on, On Point with Juandolyn Stokes, guest host, Felicia Moore spoke with attorney, CK Hoffler on Law & Legal about the legal implications of celebrating Black History Month when some states are precluding Critical Race Theory (CRT). For some, Florida is the first state to come to mind when we examine states that are blocking Black History studies despite "the 1994 law in Florida that mandates that it must be taught," says Hoffler.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis has been on an endless pursuit to block any studies that hint at diversity driven programs. Unfortunately, CRT has been linked to Black History, Spanish History, and even women's history," added Hoffler. But DeSantis has been systematically working to remove Black History from Florida public schools and colleges.
"This action curtails Freedom of Speech in Florida," added Hoffler.
The good news is there are Black legislatures and grass roots coalitions standing against DeSantis even if they do not have the majority to change laws right now.
