The newly released show, HBCU Proud hits the ground running talking with Tyrone Poole, former Fort Valley State University football legend and one of the most accomplished HBCU football players of all time. Poole, who was a two sport athlete (Football, Track) while at FVSU, was a four year starter for the Wildcats football team.
While at FVSU, Tyrone was a key contributor on two SIAC Championship seasons for the Wildcats (1991, 1992.) In the 1995 NFL Draft, Poole had the amazing honor of being selected in the 1st Round of the Draft by the Carolina Panthers. In the history of the NFL Draft, there have only been a handful of DIV II players selected in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft, only two from HBCUs in the last 30 years.Poole, went on to have an amazing 14-year NFL career, highlighted by being a member of two Super Bowl winning teams with the New England Patriots (2004, 2005).
Tyrone's post NFL career has been just as impressive as his playing days. Poole is an award winning author, motivational speaker, sports coach, sports broadcaster, and humanitarian on many levels. It was just recently announced that Poole is the newest inductee into the Fort Valley State University Athletics Hall of Fame. This induction will be just the latest, as Mr. Poole has previously been honored by the D2 Football Hall of Fame, and the SIAC.
HBCU Proud is honored to have Mr. Tyrone Poole as our HBCU Proud Alum of the Week.
