Recently on The Rashad Richey Morning Show's weekly segment "Run tell that," former Ohio State Senator and Senior Fellow at the New School Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy, the Honorable Nina Turner, discussed her shift from congressional duties to activism, revealing how her experiences have intensified her commitment to political integrity and justice.
Ms. Turner, who previously served as a congresswoman, described her departure from the position as both a challenge and an opportunity. "Pulling me away from my position as congresswoman, all you did was take some of the strings off. Because see now I don't have to worry about some strings that I have attached as much as I love my job. But all they did was radicalize me." Ms. Turner emphasized that far from being dissuaded, she has become more determined to address systemic issues.
The conversation touched on the current political climate and the influence of special interest groups. Ms. Turner criticized the impact of political action committees like AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), which she argues represent a specific political ideology rather than the broader interests of the Israeli people. Ms. Turner voiced concern that such groups distort U.S. policies and influence politicians away from addressing domestic issues.
Ms. Turner also highlighted the disparity between public expectations and political realities. Furthermore highlighting her point on how money and special interests influence political decisions, often sidelining the needs of ordinary citizens.
Ms. Turner called for greater public awareness and engagement, urging voters to challenge the systemic issues she believes undermine democratic values. She argued that political corruption and the influence of money in politics are major barriers to effective governance and genuine representation.
