Salvation Army of Georgia is deploying several emergency disaster units to New Orleans to help those impacted by Hurricane Ida. The area was hit by the storm over the weekend leaving many residents without power, communications access, and little or no drinking water.

Divisional Secretary Captain Phillip Canning says 9 feeding units and 22 specially trained emergency disaster personnel have been mobilized. The units, also referred to as canteens, include bottled water, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Each of the Salvation Army of Georgia emergency disaster vehicles can serve between 500-1,000 people a day.

Cpt. Canning tells Audacy Atlanta's Maria Boynton the Georgia feeding units are from Atlanta, Augusta, Evangeline Booth College (Atlanta), Dalton, Newnan, Red Shield Services (Atlanta), Savannah, Thomasville, and Valdosta.
