Washington D.C. was locked down. There were no crowds at the inauguration. New Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff describes Inauguration Day 2021 as "surreal".

Accompanied by wife Alisha Kramer, Ossoff attended the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris Wednesday.  Approximately 5 hours later Ossoff would be  sworn in as the first Jewish senator.  He would also be the youngest Democrat, age 33, since Biden became a U.S. Senator in 1973 at age 30.

In his only Inauguration Day radio interview, Ossoff told Radio.com's Maria Boynton that there was a "real sense of a fresh start, turning the page." According to Ossoff "I'm looking forward to serving the people of Georgia and I fully expect to be held accountable by the people of Georgia."

Ossoff's win, along with that of Georgia's first black senator Rev. Raphael Warnock, gives Democrats control of the U.S. Senate.
