On Point with Juandolyn Stokes welcomed hair care innovator and a born legacy into the industry, Autumn Yarbrough. Yarbrough founded the NU Standard, which launched in January 2023 with the HYDRASILK Hydrating Bond System available at Cosmo Prof stores nationwide.
This partnership is the first of its kind distribution of a bond system curated by a Black woman.
The NU Standard is unique because it focuses on hair health, and not just products for achieving style.
"For so many years, we masked the real problem," said Yarbrough.
For some Black women hair loss due to stress and dryness were problems, say added.
And she should know. Yarbrough is a third-generation pioneer in the hair care industry. Her grandfather, Comer Cottrell Jr. founded the Proline hair care line in the 60s and her mother founded the Just for Me brand in which Yarbrough's face was featured on the box.
"I say good hair is hair that's there," said Yarbrough.
She was motivated to start the NU Standard by her own hair loss experiences, so she focused on developing a product to stop the hair loss and hair wellness making the hair stay on our "beautiful crowns."
HYRASILK is a bond product to treat dryness used by hair care professions.
Yarbrough said, "When your hair feels good, you feel good."
