
Students are headed back to school Monday, August 2, in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fayette counties and also for Gwinnett County students in grades 4th, 5th, 8th, 11th, and 12th. Gwinnett students are being phased in over 3 days, wtih the remainder returning on Wednesday and Thursday.
The districts are returning to in-person learning, with virtual learning as an option for those that signed up. Masks are also required as recommended for K-12 by the CDC, no matter a person's vaccination status.
DeKalb County School Superintendent Cheryl Watson Harris tells Audacy Atlanta's Maria Boynton, "We recognize that we are still in a pandemic so we must keep the safety of our students and our staff as our number one priority." DeKalb has about 93,000 students.
Atlanta Public School students head back to the classrooms on Thursday, August 5.
APS, Clayton County, DeKalb County, and Fulton County school districts held back to school bashes over the weekend. Students were treated to school supplies, including backpacks, along with food boxes.
