The names of Vincent Truitt and Jimmy Atchison are now part of an international commission's investigation into police killings of African American men.
Truitt was 17 years old when he was shot twice in the back in Cobb County, Georgia in July of 2020.
The 21 year old Atchison was shot in the face as he crouched inside the closet of an Atlanta apartment in January of 2019.
Atlanta attorney Gerald Griggs, who represents the families as they seek justice, appeared before the International Commission of Inquiry on January 30 and February 6.
According to Griggs, the panel was commissioned by the United Nations to do a "deep-dive" into racial intolerance and police brutality.
Once the commission hears all the cases, it is expected to present its findings to the United Nations.
Griggs hopes the UN "will take action against the United States government for these attrocities that continue to happen."

Following the 2020 death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet called
on authorities in the United States to take "serious action" to end the killings.
