As the war rages on between Russia and Ukraine, a metro Atlanta pastor is bringing attention to the plight of African students trapped in Ukraine.

Dr. Jamal Bryant, Senior Pastor of New Birth Baptist Church in Stonecrest, led a Sunday evening prayer and call to action on social media.

Bryant says he was contacted by a Nigerian-born doctor and faith leader currently residing in Ukraine. "He asked me to help amplify the critical need to assist African students attempting to cross the border to enter Poland and Hungary," said Bryant.

Dr. Thomas Isaac participated in the prayer call, along with Gabriel, a Nigerian student who shared that he and at least 100 students were trapped together and are in need of help.

“As we watch brutal Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, wage war on the people of Ukraine, we cling to scripture which declares that God is a present help in times of trouble. We are called to not only pray but to move to action to support those under siege,” said Dr. Bryant.

Translaters were also included in the online prayer and call to action.
