The current COVID-19 vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna require two doses.
According to Dr. Jayne Morgan, the Pfizer doses are given 21 days apart, and it takes an additional week to reach full immunity. That's 4 weeks from start to finish. Moderna's vaccines are given 28 days apart and, according to Morgan, take 6 weeks for maximum protection. That's not an indication though, says Morgan, that "one vaccine is better than the other." She adds, "if you have access to either vaccine, I suggest that you take the vaccine."
Dr. Morgan is a Cardiologist and the Clinical Director of the Covid Task Force at Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta.
Morgan tells Radio.com's Maria Boynton the public should "use everything at your disposal to protect you and your family."
National statistics indicate that COVID-19 has disproportionately affected communities of color.
Morgan says the ongoing pandemic has "peeled back the veil of inherent racism and inherent bias in our system that allows us to live in a way in which we actually have a higher risk for contracting the disease."
