The latest episode of “Let’s Talk About It with the Turners,” featured Shabrea McElroy, an accomplished program manager, world traveler and community leader. McElroy joined Host Rob and Vickie Turner for a grounded and informative conversation about the value of travel, cultural exploration and planning experiences that support personal growth.

McElroy, who has more than 25 years of progressive business and leadership experience, currently serves as a Program Manager in the financial services industry, where she leads strategic initiatives centered on technology and business transformation. A native of Upstate New York and an Atlanta resident of nearly three decades, she discussed how her career, academic background and personal interests have shaped her approach to travel and global engagement.

During the conversation, McElroy emphasized that travel does not have to be reserved for major milestones or special occasions. Instead, she encouraged listeners to view it as a form of education and personal investment. “The world opens up in ways you don’t expect when you allow yourself to step into different cultures,” she said.

McElroy also spoke about the importance of planning, noting that many people assume international travel is out of reach without realizing how manageable it can be with intention and preparation. “A lot of destinations become more accessible when you take the time to research and build a plan that fits your lifestyle,” she said. She explained that her own travel journey grew gradually, beginning with regional trips before expanding to global destinations.

Throughout the interview, McElroy touched on various aspects of her background, including her academic achievements. She holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Syracuse University and an MBA from the University of Georgia. She also maintains the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, which she credits with helping her bring structure and clarity to both her professional projects and personal travel planning.

Beyond her career, McElroy is active in several community and philanthropic organizations. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has previously served on the board of the Syracuse University Alumni Association of Atlanta. She shared that service has always been part of her life, adding another dimension to her travels and the way she approaches global citizenship.

She also highlighted some of the countries she has explored, including Egypt, Greece, France, Spain, Italy and Argentina. McElroy described these experiences as opportunities to learn, observe and appreciate the diversity of cultures and histories around the world. While she refrained from offering extensive detail about each destination, she provided a broad overview of what travel has meant to her and how it continues to shape her outlook.
