Much has been made about the Falcons hiring Jeff Ulrbich as their new defensive coordinator. More important, however, will be the corresponding roster moves the team makes over the offseason. Ulbrich will not be able to fully implement his system and make the most out of the roster unless the team devotes significant resources to fixing the defensive personnel.
GM Terry Fontenot will be tasked with either using the team's No. 15 overall pick on a top defender or trading down to stockpile picks in order to get multiple swings to select impact players. The team cannot afford to do what it has done in previous seasons by taking the best player on their board (all offensive pieces).
The team has holes along all three levels of the defense, but as usual pass-rusher continues to be the most glaring need. They will also have to commit to bringing in starting caliber linebackers and safeties to sure up the roster.
