Recently on The Rashad Richey Morning Show, Host of the weekly segment 'Fitness Friday" Coach Q joined the program to discuss valuable insights on the health benefits of walking, focusing on how this simple activity can enhance overall well-being.

Coach Q emphasized that while many people set daily step goals and walk around their offices or homes, this method might not fully capitalize on walking's benefits. He pointed out that walking should be intentional and sustained to be most effective. Citing research from England's Mental Health Foundation and Sport England, Coach Q noted that 30 minutes of low-impact aerobic exercise like walking several times a week can improve mood significantly, more so than sedentary activities like reading.

Walking, according to Coach Q, offers several key benefits. It boosts energy levels by improving blood flow throughout the body, including to the brain. This increased circulation can lead to better mood and higher energy levels. However, he stressed that walking outdoors is more beneficial than walking indoors, as exposure to fresh air and natural light enhances these positive effects.

In addition to boosting energy and mood, walking helps reduce stress and anxiety. Coach Q explained that incorporating walking into daily routines can alleviate work-related stress and contribute to overall mental health. Walking also improves body confidence and sleep quality. Engaging in walks, especially during morning or evening hours, can regulate circadian rhythms, leading to better sleep patterns.

Walking also provides social benefits. Coach Q highlighted that walking in parks or trails can lead to social interactions, which can contribute to a longer, healthier life. He referred to studies showing that social engagement during physical activities can positively impact longevity.

For those new to walking, Coach Q advised starting with small, manageable goals and gradually increasing duration and intensity to build a consistent routine. This approach helps avoid overexertion and makes walking a sustainable and enjoyable part of one's lifestyle.
