Michael Penix Jr. still must prove he'll be successful as Falcons starting QB
With the start of the 2026 NFL season two months away, we have entered the time of year in which various rankings list are put out, sparking conversations and debates. Last week, CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo released his ranking of NFL quarterbacks by tiers ahead of the 2026 season, which Atlanta Falcons’ Tua Tagovailoa was listed in the sixth and final tier of holdovers and placeholders, while Michael Penix Jr. was not listed at all.
“[Michael] Penix Jr. should be have been on this list,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes said as he and Mark Zinno shared thoughts on the DeArdo ranking leaving the third-year quarterback off of his ranking, which Dukes said was a surprise to him. “He should have been in the “promising prospects” list,” Dukes said of Penix Jr.
“Promising prospect, he is that isn’t he,” Dukes asked as he and Zinno, who believes DeArdo was correct in leaving Penix Jr. off the list, debated the status of the Falcons’ quarterback. “He’s coming up, he’s going to prove that’s where he should be,” Dukes explained as he made his case for why he believes Penix Jr. is being “disrespected” by being left off the list.Has Michael Penix Jr. proven he's got 'promise' for Falcons as QB1?
