The Atlanta Falcons rediscovered the key to their offense during their victory over the Saints last Sunday. The team got back to running the ball at the level they did last season and did so with authority. The team rushed for 228 yards on 41 carries and a touchdown, averaging 5.6 yards per attempt. Those numbers, if repeatable, will be a consistent winning formula for the remainder of the season.
The key to their success was the three-headed approach the team deployed in the backfield. Tyler Allgiere, Bijan Robinson and Cordarrelle Patterson split the workload and each back provided a different element to the game plan. The key cog appeared to be the resurgence of Patterson who sat out the beginning of the season with a nagging injury. If he can regain his form from the previous two seasons it will go a long way in continuing their dominance on the ground.
Patterson only has 119 total yards on the season on 25 attempts with the majority of those yards coming last Sunday. He has combined for 14 touchdowns on the ground the past two seasons but has yet to find the end zone in 2023.
