The Atlanta Falcons and head coach Arthur Smith are expected to announce who will be their starting QB for Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, and while some of the decision may be guided by the health of Desmond Ridder, the choice of switching to Taylor Heinicke may be the direction that Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael seem to be leaning.
"I'm tired of him (Ridder) turning the ball over," says Randy McMichael. "Taylor Heinicke is a spark QB but he does not do it consistently or else he'd be a starting QB in this league. My biggest issue with Desmond Ridder is he turns the ball over too much, that's why I think he needs to be replaced."
"The argument for switching is a lot easier to make than the argument for staying put. Are we developing? I was told this is year 3 of a three-year plan," says Andy Bunker. "Heinicke is okay, he's a solid backup in the NFL, I think it would be better in turnovers and if you turn the ball over less you're going to score more and be in more games."
Another question might be if Desmond Ridder isn't the starter, is he at-least the backup? There could be a situation where medically the team doesn't fell comfortable with Ridder even being active, and that determination could go a long way to giving Ridder the ball back later in the season if Heinicke is named the starter this week.
