Kirk Cousins sent shockwaves around the NFL when he admitted on Tuesday Morning that he sustained shoulder and elbow injuries during the team's Week 10 matchup vs the Saints. Falcons' brass had previously stated that Cousins was not benched for Michael Penix Jr. due to injury and that it was performance related. Cousins' play spiraled out of control and the team lost four straight games. The question now becomes will the NFL intervene and implement any punishment for the admission?
The Falcons already lost a draft pick from his introductory presser in which it was revealed the team tampered in signing him. The team did list Cousins on the Week 11 injury report but he was not listed in subsequent weeks. Cousins said Tuesday the elbow and shoulder "couldn't get right" for the remainder of the season. It remains unclear how much the team was aware of the injury situation.
In 2023, the team was fined $75,000 and then Coach Arthur Smith $25,000 for an injury report violation involving running back Bijan Robinson. It is now up to the league offices to decide if any more punishments will be implemented.
