JOLIET (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Joliet nursing home has been extremely hard-hit by COVID-19, with 23 coronavirus-related deaths. It may be the worst outbreak of its kind in Illinois.
Officials at Symphony of Joliet said 22 residents and one staff member have died of COVID-19.
Symphony of Joliet, located at 306 N Larkin Ave., is part of a chain of nursing homes in Illinois and Indiana. The company operates 26 nursing homes in the two states.
Spokeswoman Lauryn Allison said there were about 165 residents at the 200 bed facility, before the outbreak, and that 37 residents who have tested negative for COVID-19 were moved to other Symphony locations.
Officials at Symphony confirmed that there are 16 patients currently in the nursing home suspected of having COVID-19.
Allison shared a message with CBS 2 for the loved ones of patients: "We're with you. We are also concerned. We love you. We are thinking about you. We are doing all we can to protect your loved ones. They are our loved ones, too."
Another hard-hit nursing home in the Chicago area had been the Chateau Nursing And Rehabilitation Center in Willowbrook. The DuPage County Health Department said at least 10 residents have died from COVID-19.
