CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A group of 9-1-1 operators who used family leave to take a cruise are among the allegedly bad city employees being reported by Chicago’s Inspector General.
Inspector General Joseph Ferguson’s first-quarter report includes an investigation that showed a quartet of police communication operators used health complaints -- and, in one case, a doctor’s note -- to take family medical leave.
They went on cruises together and enjoyed activities that included jet-skiing and horseback riding. Three of the workers were fired; the other resigned first. Two cases, one involving a paramedic and the other a parking enforcement aide, involve force used against members of the public. The aide got a two-day suspension, the paramedic just a written reprimand.A Chicago firefighter was accused of grabbing the thigh and private parts of a student during a ride-along and making lewd comments. The firefighter was found "not guilty" of misdemeanor criminal charges but was fired.
