(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Aurora Police this week announced the arrest of an 18-year-old accused in four attacks on women, and authorities have championed officers’ teamwork leading to his arrest.

But on the department’s Facebook page, residents are asking why police didn’t alert them about an attacker much sooner.

One person wrote: “How come, after all of these very similar occurrences, happening within weeks of each other, is the public just now being notified that a serial predator was striking?”

That post had 75 likes.

WBBM Newsradio asked Aurora Police Spokesperson Paris Lewbel.

"When we got the first initial reports of these incidents happening, we didn’t have enough information from the victims to be able to piece them together.

“They also occurred in multiple areas around Aurora.  They were not in one specific area.”

Still, some questioned why alerts weren’t issued at all.

Aurora Police say they now believe the teenager they arrested, Zion Banks, could be responsible for attacks that go back several months.
