CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Stocks closed mostly higher Wednesday, as minutes from the Federal Reserve's March meeting reflected confidence in the strength of the U.S. economy.

The S&P 500 gained 10, the NASDAQ added nearly 55 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 6 points, settling to 26,157.

"I think the market has been baking-in the fact that the Fed was pretty much going to take a pretty long wait and see when it comes to rates.  I think the market now is really waiting for quarterly earnings to be coming out and they will start coming out in earnest this week," Chuck Carlson, CEO of Horizon Investment Services, said.

He also noted that the three main engines of stock market performance are inflation, interest rates and corporate profits.
