CHICAGO (AP/WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A winter chill on Friday will replace the unseasonably warm temperatures that marked this year’s Christmas, but don’t worry, the weekend will be pretty mild.

The 60s temperatures of Thursday afternoon broke records for the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service, but residents were told to brace for 30s overnight. Friday would reach high temps in the low-40s, the NWS predicted.

Thursday’s balmy temps came on the heels of a near-record-breaking Christmas Day. Weather officials say the high on Wednesday was 57 degrees. The record for a Chicago Christmas is 64, set in 1982.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the 50s, before wintry conditions return.
