(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The flight attendants at Chicago-based United Airlines are calling on the FAA to temporarily ground the entire Boeing 737 MAX fleet.
United Airlines has 25,000 flight attendants. Their union -- the Association of Flight Attendants -- wants the FAA to ground all 737 MAX planes. This includes the MAX 8, the type that was involved in two recent crashes, and the MAX 9.
"There is general concern from crew and passengers: Am I flying the Boeing 737 MAX?" Taylor Garland, spokesperson for the Association of Flight Attendants, said Tuesday.
"And because of that growing concern - we've only seen it increase over the last few days - that is why we're looking toward the FAA to temporarily ground the fleet."
United Airlines said it does not fly the MAX 8 but does have 14 MAX 9s in its fleet.
“We are proud to say that we have the best pilots in the industry, and we have complete confidence in their ability to fly this aircraft safely,” the airline said in a prepared statement.
