Amtrak Cancels Service To, From Chicago, Citing Cold

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Amtrak is cancelling all train originations to and from Chicago for Wednesday, because of the dangerously cold weather.

This includes short-distance corridor trains and long-distance overnight trains.

Amtrak announced short-distance services are also canceled on Thursday, and most long-distance services to or from Chicago are also not expected to originate on Thursday.

That means Amtrak is basically out of operation in Chicago for Wednesday and Thursday.

Amtrak typically operates 55 trains daily to and from the Chicago hub.

An Amtrak spokesman tells the Associated Press customers with reservations will be accommodated on trains with similar departure times on another day.
