He was recently married and had a daughter, Xoe. He had been in the Army Reserves for five years and was promoted to sergeant just last month.

On Monday, his 70-year-old mother died, also of COVID-19, according to posts on social media.

One man wrote on the tribute page of his obituary: "Simon touched our lives briefly, but in a very profound, positive way.  Always respectful, trustworthy, and caring… He will live among us as long as he has a place in our hearts."
