CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One of the challengers trying to unseat Democratic Congressman Dan Lipinski says he’s running to give voice to people too often ignored in the district.
Rush Darwish is running for the democratic seat in the third Congressional District and if he is elected, would be the first Palestinian-American — and Muslim — Congressman from Illinois.Darwish, a businessman who owns a multimedia production company, said he’s running because he believes he’s the only candidate in the race who can speak for constituents who don’t have a voice. There's a large Arab-American community in the district, as well as a large Latino community. And government hasn't paid enough attention to them, he said.
"Because I have this keen understanding, I want to run," Darwish said. "We have to get more people into the (voting) process, we have to register people to vote — especially in minority neighborhoods"
Other candidates don’t know what it’s like to be part of the middle-class, he said, and he can speak to those issues.
