(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The mayor of Aurora says his city has several hurdles to overcome when the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
Richard Irvin recovered from his own ordeal with COVID-19. While big companies will mostly get through the coronavirus shutdown intact, he said several small businesses may not recover.
His city hopes to provide about $1.4 million in relief to some of them.
But the city is suffering, too. Its biggest sources of business tax revenue, such as Fox Valley Mall and the Paramount Theatre, are closed, and that's blowing a big hole in the budget.
The city expects a $35 million loss in tax revenue from a $200 million general fund.
He hopes some federal stimulus money will help close the gap.
Irvin is the guest on "At Issue," which airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
