AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Aurora police officer, who was one of the heroes in the Henry Pratt mass shooting last year, was surprised Friday with a promotion. Aurora Police Officer Christopher Weaver is known for his Facebook videos in which he provides tips to Aurora residents. Friday, he was taking young people on a virtual field trip with a Facebook Live tour of the Aurora Police Department.

The tour stopped first at the office of Chief Kristin Ziman.  The chief, recently back to work after fighting the coronavirus, asked Officer Weaver, "Hey, how’s the family? Are they watching?" Then, they went into the conference room where the chief opened the door to a whiteboard cabinet.

"What’s on here today? Oh, my gosh. Wow. Would you look at that? Officer Weaver, I would like to officially offer you the promotion to sergeant and I know you did not know this was coming," Ziman said.

Chief Ziman even joked she felt like she should get on one knee to offer the sergeant's badge to Weaver. Officer, now Sergeant Weaver initially responded in shock.

"Ohhh, my God," he said. Sgt. Weaver starts his new job in less than two weeks. Sgt. Weaver was one of the heroes of the Henry Pratt Company mass shooting. Officer John Cebulski, who was wounded by the gunman, credits Weaver with returning fire at the gunman.
