AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Aurora is looking for volunteers to help boost the response rate for the 2020 Census.

Mayor Richard Irvin said census participation is at 72% ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline, but some neighborhoods are struggling.

There are 25 neighborhoods in 12 census tracts and across six wards (Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) that have responses rates less than 60%.

The city is asking volunteers to visit those neighborhoods on August 25 and September 25, to talk to residents and distribute information about the census.

Census data is used to determine how $1.5 trillion in federal spending is distributed and how many congressional seats and Electoral College votes each state gets.
Volunteers can register online.
