(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Batavia Police say a high school student is in protective custody, after the ingredients for explosives were found in his home.
It was the FBI that got a tip about a student who'd bought things that could be combined to make explosives. Then, agents alerted Batavia Police, and that led investigators to the home of a Batavia High School student.
"And we were able to locate some of those items that they listed out of concern, and unfortunately, one of those had a very volatile status -- nature -- so we had to detonate it on scene,” said Batavia Police Officer Michelle Langston.
She said authorities searched Batavia High School with bomb-sniffing dogs but nothing was found there.
Police say the boy, a juvenile, is "in protective custody undergoing assessment."
No charges at this point.
