(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A woman was struck and killed as she was riding her bicycle in Aurora early Tuesday, and police say the driver who struck her fled the scene.

It was about 1:20 a.m. when police say a sheriff's deputy came across the 61-year-old woman.

"A Kane County sheriff's deputy who was on patrol noticed a light off the side of the road. As he got closer, he noticed it was a bicycle. He stopped his vehicle and noticed a woman who was laying down on the ground," said Aurora Police Spokesman Paris Lewbel.

The officer started CPR, but the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital.

She's been identified as Elizabeth Kakoczki of Aurora.

Lewbel says the driver who ran into her left the scene. Police are asking anyone who may know something about the incident on South Edgelawn Road to contact them.
