CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A group of bicyclists embarked on an inspirational ride Monday morning with a goal of raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer. Friday marked the 14th anniversary of the death of 13-year-old Cal Sutter, of South Elgin, who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. “After coming to that fork in the road when you experience anything hard in life, his father Tom and I decided that we wanted to give back,” said Stacey Wahlberg, Cal’s Stepmom. “We’d been through too much to give up.”

The two are now giving back through the Cal’s Angels organization, which has raised over $13 million since its founding back in 2007. This week, they hope to boost that number with the second annual War on Wheels bike ride. “At about 11:40 a.m., they left Iowa City at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital and they are pedaling all the way to St. Charles, Illinois, 24 hours straight, no sleep," she said.
