CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Bob Einstein, a comedy writer and actor who made an impression as Marty Funkhouser on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and earlier as the character "Super Dave" Osborne, has died.

His passing at age 76 in California was widely reported by several news outlets Wednesday.

Einstein is the older brother of actor and filmmaker Albert Brooks; their father was radio-era comedian Harry Parke.

R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever.

Einstein was a comedy writer for variety shows popular in the 1970s and made an impression on the TV show, "Bizarre" as "Super Dave" Osborne, an inept daredevil. That 1980s show, produced in Canada, was broadcast on cable in the United States. The Super Dave character made subsequent appearances through the years.

Later in life, Einstein enjoyed renewed popularity in Larry David's HBO series, "Curb Your Enthusiasm," a show that became famous for being both hilarious and anxiety-inducing. Einstein played David's acid-tongued friend Marty Funkhouser.
