WAUKEGAN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Authorities in Waukegan have announced that they have found the body of the final victim of Friday night's explosion at AB Specialty Silicones factory.
Three confirmed dead before this — and now the fourth death has been confirmed after that blast in Waukegan. One died at a hospital.
One body was found in the rubble on Saturday and another on Sunday. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said this last victim was found in a part of the building debris that was hardest to get to.
"At no point did we give up," Dr. Cooper said. "We knew we were going to find him. We just knew it. We talked. We had meetings. We helped each other through it and we knew that we were going to get everything done the right way. And we weren't going to leave without getting him back to his family."
Dr. Cooper said toxicology testing is being done on all four victims to determine if they died from carbon monoxide or in the explosion.
Officials have said the men who died were the ones who helped get others to safety the night of the blast.
