(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new book is designed to get you out of the house and into your car to explore the most unusual spots across Chicagoland.

Author and Chicago native Gerry Lekas said his guidebook, Where the Tour Buses Don't Go, is perfect for those who want to find the hidden gems and hidden history of Chicago.

"As a kid I was always very interested in the weirder side of the Chicago area," he tells WBBM Newsradio's Lisa Fielding.

The 230-page book includes nods to local ghost stories such as Resurrection Mary and Chicago's considerable crime lore (not surprisingly, Al Capone is well-represented). The guide also looks at some of the city's links to Hollywood glitz and glamor.

Lekas says the book comes out at a perfect time when tours and tour buses aren't being offered.
