CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The suspect in Monday’s fatal shooting at Orland Square Mall has been taken into custody, Orland Park Police confirmed Wednesday.
Police had been seeking 19-year-old parolee Jakharr Williams, a University Park resident, in connection with the incident that left one man dead and another injured.
The shooting happened about 6:45 p.m. Monday at a lower level food court at the Orland Square Mall.
Williams was observed in an altercation with victim Javon Britten, 18, when he pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking Britten in the chest and grazing a bystander’s leg, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Britten staggered from the food court area to a nearby H&M clothing store, where he collapsed, officials said.
The shooting prompted a major police response, but authorities said the incident was not a random act.
