CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City Council Zoning Committee easily approved a measure Thursday that will let the Bloody Marys start flowing a little earlier at Sunday brunch establishments.

Technically, the measure would allow restaurants that serve alcoholic drinks to start serving booze at 9 a.m. on Sunday, instead of 10 a.m., the current start time.

Sponsoring Ald. Michele Smith said restaurants asked for this because of European soccer matches that are broadcast at earlier hours here.

The full City Council could consider the proposal next week.
