CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The bitter cold temperatures may prompt a double-take at the calendar, but it's very real, and people are dealing with it.
"I still need to mow the lawn one more time, I think," joked a bundled Dan Turner as he headed for a BNSF Metra train in Hinsdale on Tuesday morning.
Jean Duggan and Patty VonderHeide were out for their morning walk as they have for over 20 years and 9-degrees above zero was not going to stop them.
"Doesn't matter the weather. I think 20-below is our absolute, no we can't go out, it's not safe," they said.
An example of how "in-stride" people were taking the cold weather: As a reporter was taking pictures of bundled-up commuters waiting for a Metra train, one woman asked if the reporter was from out-of-town.
"It stinks," she said. Diane has arthritis, "and this is horrible for me."
Betsy Elman had no choice, but to go out into the frigid elements. Her blonde golden retriever had to be walked.
As for how handy her winter clothes were, she said, "In Chicago, you never really put it away, do you? It's never too far out of reach, so it was ready."
Mario Bernardi said, "What are you going to do. That's the way it goes, right. It's Chicago. Sometimes it's cold, sometimes it's not. It'll be warm next week."
