(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Lakeview Food Pantry says it's now helping at least 150 federal employees who aren't getting paid because of the shutdown.

The lobby at the Lakeview Food Pantry was filled with people Wednesday, some of them federal employees.

"I work for the Department of Treasury, IRS," said one woman, who asked to remain anonymous. She's worked for the IRS for 16 years and was visiting the food pantry for the first time.

"I've kind of waited in anticipation that we would be returning to work sooner than we have, and that has not happened. So, now I need to make sure that I have some means to support myself during this shutdown."

The federal employee has savings, but wonder how far it's going to take her.

"I cannot imagine that if talk to any government employee that this is not a struggle," she said.

The CEO of Lakeview Pantry says there have been a lot of tears -- and a feeling of lost pride.
