Nurse Claudia Hicks

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The U.S. Navy's Blue Angels flew over Chicago Tuesday to honor health care workers.

At Weiss Memorial Hospital in Uptown, about 150 nurses and other frontline workers stood outside.

Claudia Hicks has worked at Weiss since 1976, and she's been a nurse there since 1992.

She says her work with COVID-19 patients is draining, and it's been surreal.

The Blue Angels' flyover was awesome, she said.

"It brings tears to your eye that people recognize the hard work that everybody's been doing on the front line, and the acknowledgment. But it's tears of joy."

The Blue Angels notwithstanding, she says just to have people stop and say thank you means the world.
