CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The City of Chicago opened six cooling centers Wednesday in response to extreme heat.
The city announced OEMC is monitoring weather conditions closely with National Weather Service in Chicago. During periods of warm weather, the city’s extreme heat emergency response plan is activated when the National Weather Service forecasts the heat index to exceed 105°-110°F for at least two consecutive days.
HOT area wide today & Thu, including near the lake. High temps could even reach daily records for today. A breeze & lower P.M. humidity will keep heat indices "only" near 100°, but still these temps can impact if not prepared. Be heat smart! https://t.co/migBczLMt6#ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/6cAdxMjxlw
