CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago aldermen want to see possible plans for improving Chicago’s underground Pedway system.
The Pedway is a system of tunnels and corridors that link more than 50 downtown buildings, the CTA’s Red Line and Blue Line stations and a Metra station.
Macy’s recently cleaned up and painted the part of the Pedway tunnels that run alongside its State Street store. But 39th Ward Ald. Margaret Laurino is backing a resolution asking the departments of Planning and Development, Transportation and Fleet and Facilities Management to come up with a plan to maintain the system.
She notes there’s no single authority with control over the whole thing, so the current upkeep is inconsistent.
Ald. Alderman Brendan Reilly, whose 42nd Ward includes the Pedway, says a public-private partnership is likely.
