CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city of Chicago conducted a three-hour “public safety drill” Thursday night in some of the downtown areas hardest hit by looting.

Some residents applauded the city for doing the drill and hoped some preparedness comes from it for next time.

Others wondered where police were the last time.

“It’s sad that the second round of looting happened as everything was starting to open back up,” one resident of the North Michigan Avenue area said. “So, it seemed like there should’ve been something a little bit more present and preventative beforehand.  Because it’s all a little too-little, too-late, trying to cover themselves on the back end.”

The Office of Emergency Management and Communications says the drill had been planned for weeks and was not done in response to any event.
