CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It's a far cry from fast food at the White House.

The co-owner of the three-Michelin-star Chicago restaurant Alinea has invited the national football champions to a celebration here. Alinea, 1723 N Halsted St., is known for its "molecular gastronomy."

I could care less about college football. But I'm personally inviting the Clemson Tigers team and coaches to Chicago to experience what an actual celebration dinner should be.I'm not joking.Someone let them know what The Alinea Group does. It'll be worth it@ClemsonTigers

The tweet from Nick Kokonas of Alinea invites the Clemson Tigers to Chicago "to experience what an actual celebration dinner should be."

"I love a good burger and fries, but I thought to myself, what would this celebration look like in, say, France or Italy or Japan?  And I was just kind of like, why not use that opportunity to expand these kids' minds?" Kokonas told WBBM Newsradio Wednesday.

Kokonas's tweet has gotten many comments.

"I think it's like 95 percent positive and then 5 percent of the people think I'm just like an elitist liberal who's attacking the president,” he said.

President Trump earlier this week had the college football champions over to the White House, where staffing is short with the partial government shutdown. Trump sprang for a mound of fast food from McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s.

Kokonas is treating in Chicago. Estimated cost, he said, would be $50,000 to $75,000.

He said he hasn’t received an official response, but people connected with Clemson have put his invitation in front of the right people.
