Chicago Children's Theatre To Host Day Camps During Teachers Strike

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --  With Mayor Lightfoot announcing that CPS classes will be canceled Thursday, many parents are making contingency plans. 

The Chicago Children’s Theatre announced Wednesday that for as long as CPS classes are canceled, they will offer day camps.

The day-to-day drama camp will be offered for students in grades K-5 and will feature a variety of classes exploring acting, singing, puppet making and performance, choreography, design and collaborative storytelling. In the event classes are canceled longer than Thursday, each day will be different to keep children engaged, the Chicago Children’s Theatre said.

"Chicago Children’s Theatre sincerely hopes that the Chicago Teachers Union and the City of Chicago reach an agreement as soon as possible," the theater said in a statement. "However, with a strike imminent, Chicago Children’s Theatre is ready to provide a safe and creative place for a limited number of CPS students."

The drama camp will be offered Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theater will also offer before-care starting at 8 a.m. and after-care from 4-6 p.m. Tuition for the camp is $75 per day, including before and aftercare. Financial aid is also available.
