Christmas Season Kicks Off With Chicago Tree-Lighting

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's official Christmas tree was lit Friday night.

Thousands packed Millennium Park and the surrounding streets to watch the countdown and see the tree come to colorful life.

The 55-foot-tall spruce tree was donated by an Elgin family, which had the honor of flipping the switch.

Becky Rademacher of Valparaiso was among those who packed Millennium Park to enjoy the annual Chicago holiday tradition.

Nearly 55,000 lights fill this year's tree.

The tree will be up through Jan. 6.
