CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The cold snap ahead may not be welcome by many of us, but it should help bring out autumn colors.
At the Circle Garden in the Chicago Botanic Garden, two Sugar Maples are a rusty orange-red.
The garden's director of living plant documentation Boyce Tankersley estimates the leaves are about a week behind in changing colors because of warm weather.
Last month was the warmest September we've had in 86 years, according to the state climatologist.
With frost forecasted for some far western suburbs, Tankersley said now is a good time to mulch your garden beds and plant bulbs for the spring.
