Conducting Government Business This Month? Check The Calendar First

February Calendar 2020

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- If you're planning on renewing your driver's license or conducting other government business in the next week an a half, check the calendar first.

The Land of Lincoln celebrates the 16th president's birthday, so Feb. 12 is a state holiday.

While many states and the federal government only take off the combined Presidents Day, Illinois celebrates Washington's birthday on Feb. 17.

So various city, state and county offices will be closed for business on both Feb. 12 and 17.

As for Secretary of State facilities, it depends.

Some locations that have Saturday hours, like those in Des Plaines and Waukegan, will be closed on Feb.15.

Others that are already closed on the weekend will take off on Monday, Feb. 17.

Early voting will continue at the Kane County Clerk's Office on Feb. 12 and 17, despite the fact that the offices are closed for other business those days.

And while the City of Chicago observes both presidential holidays, Chicago Public School students will only to get off school on Abe's birthday (Wednesday, Feb. 12).

If they are looking for something to do that day, the Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield is free on Wednesday, Feb. 12; and closer to home, the Field Museum is open and offering free admission on both Lincoln's and Washington's birthday, as well as the entire month of February.
